Extremely rare, original 1889 cabinet card photograph of Reimund Holzhey, “The Black Bart of the Upper Peninsula”, who terrorized Northern Michigan for five months in 1889. It was said that he was responsible for the last stagecoach robbery east of the Mississippi river, on August 26, 1889, in Gogebic County, during which he killed two passengers. Holzhey was arrested three days later, but escaped within a month, was recaptured, and served 23 years in prison.
He is pictured here with his captors a sheriff and another man (possibly a deputy). Measures 4 x 6.5″ and studio mark on bottom is S. S. Clark Shawano Wisconsin.
A super rare image from the days of outlaws. This is not a reproduction but an original 1889 cabinet card.
Note: We apologize for the excessive amount of watermark on the photo. Of course, this is only on the digital file online, not on the original photograph. We do this to protect the buyer as lately people are stealing photos offline and printing them trying to pass them off as real.
